02 Aug Being in the Game, of luck.
Is luck the elusive catch of the day, or is it really a game of chance, or is there more beneath the surface?
As I navigate the maze and waters of aspiration and success, it becomes evident that luck is not merely a roll of the dice, but rather a synergy of preparedness, opportunity, and resilience. And I guess optimism.
Like skilled fishermen, they cast multiple lines, maximising their chances of reeling in success. The more lines, the more promising the prospect is, and the more luck you’ll have.
I’m a cynic, so I let money talk and in the words of one of my favourite masters of business and wealth: “If you’re not playing the game – you won’t get those opportunities” – Christo Wise, he also said, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” Same, same. The only way I can be a great “player” of this game is by being prepared, and that doesn’t take luck. That’s a mix of perseverance, failure and learning, strategy, darn hard work and some crazy. This gets you in the game, where these lines you cast.
Successful individuals understand that the waters of success can be turbulent. The difference between those who weather the storm and those who sink lies in their resilience. Einstein said: “A ship is safe in the harbour, but that is not what is ship is made for.”
It’s not enough to have a line in the water; it’s about knowing when to reel it in. Ambition is working relentlessly to open doors, wisdom is knowing which ones to open.
I’ve had my fair share of tuna and great privileges of great whites. But my lines were in.
Those who persistently refine their strategies and keep casting their lines are more likely to catch the wave of success.
Luck can also thrive in collaboration with more luck. The connections you make can open doors to new opportunities, helping you navigate the waters more effectively.
Luck is not an isolated phenomenon but a culmination of actions, choices, and outlook. It’s not just about sitting back and waiting for fortune to smile upon you; it’s about actively casting lines of effort, innovation, and perseverance. Luck is also not a solitary force, but a dance between your readiness and the tides of opportunity.
You earn it, just look at those who are so lucky to be lucky.
